For most of us, 2021 has been a crazy roller coaster of ups and downs. Government-mandated lockdowns and restrictions were all too common worldwide, and some countries are still regulating their inbound international travellers extremely tightly.
Or even in Singapore, where we do have to take approved Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests if we do want to get out of the country.
And then book another PCR test to come back into the country.
The hassle of travelling internationally is all too real — and of course, a money spinner playing on the urges of people to travel.
It’s easy to travel domestically within large countries such as the United States… but in Singapore, probably not.
So of course, I do have to scratch “travel” off my list of resolutions… mainly because I’m too cheap to pay for PCR tests.
Do I want to resolve to stay healthy?
Well, I’ve been at it for the past few years, after working hard to maintain some habits within a one year weight loss experiment:
But as I did find out, it all starts with the mind.
We have to be consistent in what we do — whether it being making a conscious decision to cut out all those darned unhealthy foods in the diet, or choosing to go on doing sufficient exercise workouts consistently.
Consistency is key, and that holds in so many other aspects of our lives — whether it be at work, or in life, or even just maintaining and working on human relationships. We don’t like it when people blow hot and cold with us.
I wouldn’t really want to make a resolution that I know I don’t have the discipline to be consistent about, otherwise I’d be just paying lip service to that resolution.
But what I do know is that I will continue writing on the biochemistry of human health, because it’s so darned fascinating and it does unearth a whole load of content that doctors rarely (if ever) discuss.
I will continue working out and living healthy — though dating does bring about its pitfalls, such as extra ice cream…
I will, of course, carry on with my tone of unbridled sarcasm when I’m writing.
It has been a fun journey full of personal learning, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Cheers to 2022, and if you did make resolutions for the new year, may you find the consistency and discipline to make those resolutions work for you!
